My dear reader! It is nice to meet with you again. The music is softly playing in my background and a candle is burning comforting me as I write. I settle in, take a breath, and am ready to express myself on this topic.
Are you ready to listen? I hope so.
My reader, we all have a critical nature that lives inside of us. Yes, I really think we ALL do. This critical nature is most likely passed down from generation to generation, slowly haunting the minds, hearts, and souls of God's beloved children. It is devastating to be quite frank.
We come into this world crying, laughing smiling, trying, failing, falling, and getting back up again. However, I doubt that a 2-year-old ever says to himself or herself, " I am stupid" or "I am not enough or " I am ugly."
NO!
Most likely the inner critic, ( the critical nature inside of us) is learned and or energetically passed down.
This voice. This inner critic. This criticism.
We have a choice as to whether it will take hold of us, my dear reader!
But sometimes it tightens its grip on us and we are left....
overanalyzing
overthinking
criticizing
not feeling
numbing
not feeling content
not loving ourselves
not feeling like we are "good enough"
Criticism.
Inner Critic
Man, it is time you have got to go!
You know why?
Because God's children are where they are meant to be in each and every moment!
Dear Reader, you are where you are meant to be in this moment!
To be thankful for the moment that we are in is where we are invited to come from.
I can either go about my days coming from my inner critic voice or......
I can choose to come from a soft and gentle voice that says, " You are where you are meant to be until the next miracle takes place."
BECAUSE...... Do you know why?
IT IS ALL A MIRACLE! We are meant to be where we are in the miracle that we are in until the next one appears. See it! Notice it! Be it! Love it!
Our very breath coming out of our mother's womb was a miracle. It is all a miracle. What is here now and what lies ahead is a miracle. So I say " THANK YOU GOD" for where I am now!
You see my dear reader, if I allow the inner critic to tell me I am never where I am supposed to be then all of my PRESENT moments are stolen from me and my mind is bound up in the ever-racing RUN to the future!
Running toward the future constantly to escape the inner critic is EXHAUSTING!!!
I will say it again, running away from the inner critic is EXHAUSTING!
I have a better idea. A suggestion that I have been using lately and it truly has been a game changer and is adding more freedom to my life!
Do you want to know what it is?
It is simple!
When I am aware of the inner critic running the show and telling me that I have to be somewhere or someone else rather than who and what I am, I say this mantra to myself.
MY SPECIAL MANTRA:
" I am exactly where I am meant to be." " I am exactly where I am meant to be."
shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
It quiets down the inner critic and I can take a deep breath. I take a deep breath and I know that God is with me and he has got me!
Oh, this verse spoke to me the other day and made me cry. It is how I feel when I say this mantra to myself.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
That's how I feel! Truly, when I tell myself that I am where God wants me to be. I feel like I am amongst so much green and the water is clear blue with lots of beautiful movement and peace!
Oh my dear reader, I truly don't believe that we are to let the inner critic run the show.
NO!
We are meant to lie down in green pastures. As we walk with God, we can TRUST him in the present moment. He has us! He does!
The inner critic wants to take us away from PEACE and lead us to chaos.
God wants to take us away from chaos and lead us beside quiet waters.
Can we accept this? Do we want this? Do we trust this? Is it too boring without constantly criticizing ourselves? Is it too hard to stop the brain from automatically criticizing ourselves and running the inner critic program?
Maybe so?
How do we stop the brain from running the inner critic program? Well, I haven't gotten it all figured out but let's take a look at a couple of things that might help.
What can stop/pause/interrupt the inner critic?
1.) AWARENESS is Key!- You first need to know you are allowing it to run the show before you can do anything about it. I invite you to be aware of your thoughts. Set a timer on your phone to interrupt your day. What were you thinking? Jot it down. Was it an inner critic thought or a gentle loving thought?
2.) SCAN Your body- Set a timer and stop to scan your body. Do you feel pressure in your head? Is another part of your body hurting? Sometimes these are signals of overactivity in the brain..... most likely critical thoughts. OR if other parts of the body are hurting they can be signaled from the brain to that part. Allow your body to be a sign and signal that the inner critic just might be running your show.
3.) SLOW down and write- If we want to limit the inner critic's power. We can acknowledge it and release it. We can then replace it with more kind, loving, and gentle thoughts.
If we can keep this up as an awareness practice. We can be in charge of the inner critic instead of the inner critic ruling us.

We can hush the inner critic together! I will continue on my journey doing so.
Are you with me?
I hope so!
As we hush the inner critic, we can start to listen to the gentle voice of LOVE and HOPE! It is this voice that will guide us to great new ways of being and doing.
I like that much better!
